Sanjay Nagar and Ahaana Nagar

Kohka Foundation, founded by Sanjay Nagar in 2014, has been working towards the upliftment
of tribal and marginalised communities in Madhya Pradesh. Today, with the ongoing pandemic,
Sanjay Nagar and Co-Trustee Ahana Nagar, have shifted their focus of work to provide relief
materials and resources to people and agencies to also include Maharashtra, especially
Mumbai.
While Kohka Foundation had begun their awareness programmes for CoronaVirus on Women’s
Day (8th March) this year, their work began when thousands of migrant workers started crossing
the Madhya Pradesh borders after the announcement of the nation-wide lockdown. As of today,
more than 15,000 such displaced migrants have been fed fresh hot meals twice a day over the
span of 3 months. Alongside this, 200 truck drivers, 1,804 families and 450 Naxal-area
inhabitants in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh who were left without any food resources were
given ration kits.
In Maharashtra, we have donated a collective 25,000 face masks, 9001 face shields, 5000 hand
sanitizers, 35 foot-operated hand sanitizer machines and 20 pulse oximeters to the Mumbai and
Nagpur Police Departments. Kohka Foundation also had the amazing opportunity to meet Smt.
Kishori Pednekar, Mayor of Mumbai, to donate 25,000 face masks, 9000 face shields and 25
pulse oximeters to Mumbai’s government hospitals like KEM and Cooper Hospital. Through
BMC’s K West Ward, we have also donated 210 PPE Kits to the Crematorium workers of
Amboli and Oshiwara.
Through the course of the lockdown, Kohka Foundation has also been able to form an
association with Mumbai’s transgender community. Having already worked with marginalised
communities before, we wanted to make sure another neglected and socially unacceptable
group was also taken care of. Till date, we have distributed 800 ration kits, 2000 face masks
and 3000 hand sanitizers to the transgender community across Bandra, Mahim, Ghatkopar and
Vikhroli.
While involved in such activities, we have maintained all forms of social distancing and other
safety measures like wearing gloves, maintaining distance, not touching public property
unnecessarily, constantly sanitizing and making sure our face masks are always on. We also
ensure that the clothes worn are immediately put for a wash and also bathe ourselves after
returning home.
